Routemaster Shaped London Red Bus Mug

15 StrandIt may sound like a strange concept for a mug to be shaped like a red double decker bus but it's true. Somehow the rectangular routemaster has been squashed and moulded into a, kind of, cylindrical mug. The mug is a 3D effect with protruding lights, wheels and number plate and sunken windows. It makes for a quirky, odd, hand-made looking mug which is perfect for the red London bus fanatic. The Routemaster is the quintesential double decker London bus, the last to be wholly designed by London transport. Built in 1954 as a prototype, the Routemaster entered service in 1956 and was the star of the Lord Mayor's show on the 9th Novemebr 1956. Designed by Douglas Scott it was the last open-platform bus to enter service in London and was designed for a 17 year life. 2,760 Routemasters were built in Park Royal for use in London during the 1960s. All Routemasters were withdrawn at the end of 2005. Only two heritage routes remain, 15: Trafalgar Square to Tower Hill and 9: Royal Albert Hall to Aldwych. |
